Lynette Miller taught photography in an upstate New York university before being lured to the mountains          of North Carolina.

“Although my professional background is in photography and printmaking, I’ve found that painting  floorcloths is not so much a departure from the work and ideas I have been exploring over the past 20 years such as transparency, color, and layering, as it is  functional application of those ideas.”

Her first floor cloth was an ambitious undertaking for her dining room.  “I had never heard of a floor cloth before a friend showed me some magazine articles on how to make them. I realized that a floor cloth would be the perfect solution to protect my dining room floors and add a bit of color.”  Her design incorporated leaves gathered from her wooded backyard. “Everyone seemed to love what I was making, an I loved the idea of making an art object using natural, organic elements which could serve a utilitarian purpose as well as an aesthetic one. So I just kept making them. ”

After intensive research and experimentation with many different methods of construction, her award-winning FloraCloths combine the best of all Lynette has learned.  She continually experiments with design innovations and maintains her FloraCloth studio near Black Mountain, NC.
